When Mommy Says No

…just ask Daddy!

I was trimming Evie’s nails after her bath when she asked me if she could have paint on them too. Since it was already bed time, I said no and told her she would have to wait until tomorrow night. Her response? “Daddy will. Daddy’s always nice.”

65/365 - Mommy said no, so she asked Daddy instead

Apparently she was right.

In the Eye of the Beholder

I had an off day today. Not a bad day, just a blah kind of day. A mixture of Spring fever and poor food choices most likely. But, it was a beautiful day so I decided to take the kids by the park after I picked them up tonight. They have been begging to go to the park for over a week now, so I figured we might as well get it in before the weather gets cruddy again.

I didn’t plan on taking pictures, but at the last minute I grabbed my little camera out of my purse for a few snapshots. I got a lot of blurry pics of the kids running and playing, but I managed to capture one that I just absolutely love. Evie wanted to get on the tire swing, and Zach came to join her a couple minutes later. I asked Evie to lean in close to Zach and I got my new favorite photo.

The photo isn’t perfect by any means. The focus is a little fuzzy. Zach’s glasses are tilted funny. There’s a pole coming out of Evie’s head. But to this mom of two kids who spend probably 75% of their time together these days fighting, it is a perfect photo because it proves there was a moment in time when everyone was smiling and happy.

This is why I love photography. Getting this photo changed my entire mood for the day. Well, maybe a little time out in the warm sunshine helped too.

Joy of Love – Day 2

How She Looks

Now that I’ve learned the basics of my camera (though there is still LOTS more to learn), I’m trying to challenge myself more. One way I’m doing this is through my 365 project, but I also decided to join in Willette’s “The Joy of Love” class for the month of February. Each day there is a photo assignment to complete. Today’s topic was “How they look” which was just way too easy. As soon as I pulled my camera out, Evie started making faces at me. I love this face so much!

A Visit With Santa

Official Santa Photo of 2010

We had a hard time fitting it in this year, but we finally made it out Saturday for the annual visit with Santa. The kids were so excited and knew exactly what to do when it was finally their turn. Zach told Santa the only thing he wants for Christmas is a DS and a game to play on it. I sure hope Santa brings him one or he’s going to be a very disappointed little boy Christmas morning. I’m not sure what Evie asked for, but I’m sure she will be happy with whatever Santa brings.

I didn’t have a chance to speak to the big guy myself, but honestly, all I really want for Christmas is to be surrounded by my family and enjoy the time I have with them. It is all I really need and I’m pretty sure I’ll get my wish.

She Really Is Paying Attention

Scene: Zach, Evie, Mommy, and Granny riding in the car on the way to order yet another pair of glasses for Zach.

Zach: Happily singing and chatting with Mom and Granny…

Evie: Playing with an old cell phone that she likes to carry around. Suddenly she yells out, “Stop talking! I’m on the phone!”

Zach: Continues to talk

Granny and Mommy: Stifling our laughter the best we can

Evie: “Stop it! I’m ON THE PHONE!!!”

Hmmmm, wonder where she gets that from???

Smiles

Apparently, this is what I get when I pick the kids up and surprise them with a quick trip to the park:

IMGP3161

IMGP3173(I don’t know why his teeth and lips are blue! He came home from school like that.)

I also have realized that I’m getting much more comfortable shooting my camera in manual mode.  Twice in the last week I’ve tried to use the little point-n-shoot that I carry in my purse and I’ve been completely frustrated because I couldn’t change ALL the settings to get what I wanted.  Out of the 20 or so pics I snapped this afternoon, only about five turned out okay and even those needed a good amount of editing.  I’m finding more and more that I just wish I would carry my good camera everywhere with me.
