Friday Music Fun – Indecisive Edition

I couldn’t decide which one I wanted to post, so I’m posting two songs that I’ve been digging this week.

First up is my beloved Pearl Jam doing “Johnny Guitar.” I got to hear it live when they were here in KC last May and it’s been in my head lately for some reason.

Next in line is G. Love singing “Just Fine.” I’m really enjoying his recent collaboration with The Avett Brothers, Fixin’ To Die, and you can find this song on there as well.

Friday Music Fun with Francesca Battistelli

Things are a bit crazy in my world right now and I can’t take the time to write about it yet, so I thought I’d share what’s spinning around in my head today.

This is the stuff that drives me crazy
This is the stuff that’s getting to me lately
In the middle of my little mess
I forget how big I’m blessed
This is the stuff that gets under my skin
But I gotta trust You know exactly what You’re doing
It might not be what I would choose
But this is the stuff You use

Friday Music Fun with Rabbit!

So, here’s something new. I don’t usually do this, but I’m just in a funky mood today (and maybe want to push that last post down on the page) so here’s what I’m calling a “Friday Music Fun” post. I have no idea if there will ever be another one or not, but it seems like a good idea today.

I discovered the band Rabbit! a while back after downloading the Do Fun Stuff cd for the kids (okay, for me).  They are not at all what I would normally listen to, but their music is just so fun.  I click them on and my mood is instantly lifted.  I want to get up and dance, although I’m pretty sure people would look at me funny if I did that in the office.

This morning, I was in a funk and being rather moody.  I clicked a link and found a link to Connect The Dots by Rabbit! in a post and knew that was the perfect thing to pull me out of my mood. For only $5.99 on Amazon, I decided it was worth a little treat to myself.  So, that’s what I’ve been listening to all day and now I’m sharing it with you.

I’m going to share a couple of videos of them so you can see for yourself just how fun and quirky they are.  Do yourself a favor and give them a listen!

Oh, and if you are my husband, don’t bother listening because you’ll just make fun of my music choices. 😉

This One Is For The Grandparents

Zach’s school had a Winter Music Program this week.  Sadly, it was at 3:00 in the afternoon and nobody could make it there but me.  Lucky for all of you though, I recorded as much of it as I could with my shaky hands.  I ended up sitting on my knees in front of the chairs they had set up for parents as it was the only place I could get a clear view.  Here are the four songs that the Kindergarten performed, minus a few seconds I missed at the beginning of a couple songs. Zach is a little hidden by the big hair in front of him, but you can find him at the end of the second row from the top, on the right side.

The best part though, was at the end when the principal announced they had a Christmas gift for every single child, sponsored by Toys for Tots. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard so many kids squeal all at once!

CD Review: Norah Jones

Featuring Norah Jones cover The newest release from Norah Jones is anything but ordinary.  I honestly don’t know of any other album that brings together so many artists from different genres so seamlessly.  The common denominator, of course, being the incredibly talented Norah Jones.

...Featuring, released on November 16, 2010, is an amazing collection of cameos, duets, and collaborations with music legends such as Ray Charles, Dolly Parton, and Willie Nelson, as well as more contemporary artists such as Ryan Adams, Foo Fighters, and Outkast. The tracks on ...Featuring span Norah’s entire career and reveal her musical versatility, from jazz to country, hip-hop to rock.

“A lot of the people on this record are people I’ve worshiped since I was a kid, and some of them are younger and more my contemporaries,” says Norah. “Even though the musicians are so varied, the vibe of the songs makes sense when we put them all together.”

If you haven’t heard it yet, I recommend you give it a spin as soon as possible.  You can find it at all the usual places, including Amazon.  If you’d like to keep up with Norah and her future projects, you can also find her on Facebook.

CD Review: KT Tunstall's Tiger Suit

September and October have bombarded me with new music from some of my favorite artists and KT Tunstall’s Tiger Suit (released October 5th, 2010) is no exception.  KT has gone a bit more in the dance/pop direction with this one, but she still retains some of her rock guitar-driven style that I’ve come to love.

I’ve been listening to this album pretty much non-stop since I got my hands on it and I have yet to pick out a favorite, although “Fade Like A Shadow” and “Come On, Get In” are the ones that keep getting stuck in my head.  The upbeat songs make me want to dance, while the the slower, heavier songs have me digging into the lyrics booklet for understanding.   Each time I listen I pick up on something I didn’t hear before.

If you haven’t had a chance to hear Tiger Suit yet, you can check out a preview of the album on KT Tunstall’s web site by tweeting or sending a link to facebook.  If you like what you hear, I suggest following KT Tunstall on Twitter or Facebook as well.  She’ll be touring this fall (10/31-12/1) and you don’t want to miss out if she comes near your town!

The not-so-fine print: I received a copy of KT Tunstall’s Tiger Suit in exchange for posting this review and was not compensated in any other way.
