A Truly Relaxing Weekend

Let me just start out by saying this: You women who have five kids are completely insane. We had five kids and five adults at the lake house this weekend and it nearly took all five adults to keep up with the five kids.

Happiness

The weekend started out a bit rocky. We got a late start Friday night, which put us winding through not very clearly marked lake roads in the pitch black night hours. We only make one wrong turn (because I couldn’t see the split in the road) which was easily corrected. Zach finally fell asleep just a few minutes before we got there, then woke up and refused to go back to sleep until nearly 4:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. Considering the amount of sleep he had, he was pretty well behaved the next day though.

Laughing with Aunt Tanya

We spent quite a bit of time out on the lake in the boat, which the kids and adults both loved. The boat seemed to put four out of the five kids to sleep nearly every time we were on it which was quite convenient. We took a ride out to Gator’s Saturday night where I indulged on the fried pickles I’ve been craving since I was pregnant with Evie. They were so good I ordered some more to take home for later.

Laugh

On Sunday, we rode out to Ha Ha Tonka State Park where we walked until we couldn’t go any farther with the stroller. Then we went back to the house for a late lunch and let the kids swim for a while. Zach still wasn’t very confident in the water, but Evie actually fell asleep while floating around in her life jacket (with my arm wrapped around her of course). She definitely likes the water. I’m going to have to check with my dad and see if they got any good pictures of the kids in the water because I wasn’t brave enough to take my camera out there.

A Walk with Grandpa

When we weren’t out on the water, we spent the time relaxing at the house. I was finally able to finish reading Sleep is for the Weak while my sister took on the first book of the Twilight series. She now has the other three books in her possession and will probably finish them before I get even halfway through the first one.

Zach and Grandpa

It was a wonderful weekend. The kids were a little crazy at times, but considering we had ten people crammed into a tiny little (non child-proofed!) lake house, they really were pretty well behaved. Most of all, I really enjoyed spending some time with my dad and his wife. They usually have to rush back home on Saturday so that my dad can be ready for church Sunday morning, but he actually had the
day off and got to stick around until we left on Monday. I haven’t even seen my dad since they moved at the end of June, so it was especially nice to spend some time with him.

Oh, and the very best part of the entire weekend? Evie slept for a record EIGHT glorious hours in a row Sunday night and I actually got to sleep for seven of those hours. I woke up at 6:00 a.m. with what felt like two gigantic watermelons on my chest, but it was so worth it. That is the longest I’ve slept in probably eight months or so and it felt so very good.
