Time Sure Does Fly!

I can’t believe it is Tuesday already! This weekend went by so quickly. It’s really all a big blur now. There were birthday celebrations, friends, and family. Then there were sick babies, cancelled soccer games, a broken air conditioner, a rushed trip to the store for baby supplies, good food, great desserts, and movies. Suddenly it was Monday. I stayed home with the sick baby, which just made me jealous of all the mommies that get to stay home all the time. Even though he was sick, we had a wonderful day together. Now I’m back at work trying to catch up and catch my breath.

Do you ever…

…catch yourself thinking in blog entries? Sometimes when I have something on my mind I will realize that I have given it a title and am writing it out in my head. I caught myself doing it in the shower this morning. It would have been a great entry if only I could remember what it was about!

Relaxing Among the Chaos

We got our new carpet installed yesterday morning. Because they had to come during the day, I got to stay home from work so I could be there when they arrived. Plus, we had to have everything moved out of the rooms that they were carpeting so I had a bit of work to do as well. We pretty much had everything moved out Sunday night, but there were a few things that we left to the last minute.

Monday morning I got to sleep in for a little bit, then I got up and took the baby to day care. I figured as long as I had to pay her anyway, she might as well watch him so I could get some things done around the house. My housekeeping has been terrible since the baby was born and I really wanted to catch up on a few things. I spent the first couple of hours just cleaning my bedroom. I put away laundry, dusted, and pulled out the furniture to vacuum behind it. I was both amazed and disgusted to see what kind of filth we had been living with. After the bedroom was done, I started working on the bathroom and then decided that what I really needed was to just relax for a while.

I decided to lay down on the bed and just read for a while. I read several chapters of the book that I planned on reading during my maternity leave. I desperately wanted a nap but didn’t want to fall asleep in case the carpet installers needed something. So, I read my book and flipped channels until they were done. I’m pretty sure that was the most relaxing hour and a half I have had in the last 3 months. It may have been the first time I have been alone since the baby was born now that I think of it.

Of course, it couldn’t last. They finished the carpet and I got up and slowly started re-building my living room and computer room. One of the great things about getting the carpet put in is that it forced me to re-think my room arrangements. I’ve been feeling very cramped in the living room, so we’re going to get rid of some things and re-arrange the rest of the furniture. I’m going to clear out some of the cluttery stuff that I had sitting around and hopefully it will be a much more relaxing place for me.

So far, I am loving the way the living room is turning out. The carpet looks great and when I get home tonight our big screen tv should be there. Hopefully I can quickly get the kitchen back to normal (everything got shoved in there to prepare for the carpet) and then sit on my butt in front of the new tv for a couple hours.

Instant Knowledge

I can’t remember what movie it was on, but it was one of those sci-fi futuristic type movies where a person could plug into a machine and they could instantly learn years worth of knowledge on a certain subject. I wish I had one of those machines. I love having my blog on Moveable Type, but there is so much to learn about it. My knowledge of web design is pretty much limited to html and css. I don’t know much of anything about perl, php, java, or any other scripting languages. This has become a bit of a problem. Moveable Type and other blogging programs run on scripts.

I can install and use MT just fine. I love the way it works. Where I run into problems is when MT doesn’t do what it is supposed to. I’m very limited in the troubleshooting that I can do myself and when you are using the free personal edition, you don’t have access to much support other than the forums. I have run into problems twice now.

The first problem came with an install to my family website. I was attempting to install MT and then to migrate my WordPress blog to MT. As far as I can tell, the install was done correctly but when I try to run the program I keep getting a 500 internal server error. I have checked everything that is mentioned in the MT Knowledge Base, but still cannot get it to run. I put a post in the forums and have not had any replies. I’m getting a bit frustrated about it.

Then this morning, I installed a plug-in that I could not get to work. Somehow, after messing around with it for quite some time I did something that fixed it, although it was by mistake and I’m still not quite sure what I did.

I really wish that I had the time to learn more about all of this stuff. I have a feeling my limited knowledge will soon be completely outdated and I don’t have the time or energy to keep myself up to date.

Christmas in September

Over the weekend I went shopping for my husband’s birthday present. He’s always hard to buy for, but a blogging friend had a great suggestion and it just happened to be something he’s wanted for a while. She suggested a surround sound system.

So, I started my search online to see where I could find the best prices. I looked around and found the one that I wanted at Sam’s Club. Since we had to move everything out of the living room for our carpet to be installed today, I thought it would be a good idea to give it to him a little early so he could set it up when we put the living room back together. When we got home from church yesterday I told him I needed to run a quick errand and went down to Sam’s to pick it up.

While I was there, I saw that they had a 47-inch wide-screen tv on sale for $775. It was the same one that my brother bought a few months ago so I knew it was pretty good. It was marked down because it was the last one they had and was the display model.

I came home and gave hubby his surround sound system (which he was thrilled about) and told him about the tv. He’s been saving some money back for a while for a big screen tv and had $500 already to put toward it. We decided that he could put the rest of it on his visa and that would be our Christmas presents to each other for this year. So. he headed down to Sam’s with our brother-in-law to pick it up. When he got to the register to pay for it, they told him that they don’t accept visa cards so he didn’t get it.

He came home and told me what happened and we decided we were probably better off to wait a while anyway. As the night went on, we kept thinking about it and decided to check around and see what kind of prices we could find elsewhere. We looked online and found a 52-inch projection tv for $999 and after talking about it for a while decided to go ahead and get it. They have a no interest for 24 months deal going on right now and free delivery which I thought was a pretty good deal.

So, Christmas for us will be in September this year. I can’t complain though, because we will have a pretty sweet set-up once we get it all hooked up. I can’t wait!
