CD Review: Norah Jones

Featuring Norah Jones cover The newest release from Norah Jones is anything but ordinary.  I honestly don’t know of any other album that brings together so many artists from different genres so seamlessly.  The common denominator, of course, being the incredibly talented Norah Jones.

...Featuring, released on November 16, 2010, is an amazing collection of cameos, duets, and collaborations with music legends such as Ray Charles, Dolly Parton, and Willie Nelson, as well as more contemporary artists such as Ryan Adams, Foo Fighters, and Outkast. The tracks on ...Featuring span Norah’s entire career and reveal her musical versatility, from jazz to country, hip-hop to rock.

“A lot of the people on this record are people I’ve worshiped since I was a kid, and some of them are younger and more my contemporaries,” says Norah. “Even though the musicians are so varied, the vibe of the songs makes sense when we put them all together.”

If you haven’t heard it yet, I recommend you give it a spin as soon as possible.  You can find it at all the usual places, including Amazon.  If you’d like to keep up with Norah and her future projects, you can also find her on Facebook.

CD Review: KT Tunstall's Tiger Suit

September and October have bombarded me with new music from some of my favorite artists and KT Tunstall’s Tiger Suit (released October 5th, 2010) is no exception.  KT has gone a bit more in the dance/pop direction with this one, but she still retains some of her rock guitar-driven style that I’ve come to love.

I’ve been listening to this album pretty much non-stop since I got my hands on it and I have yet to pick out a favorite, although “Fade Like A Shadow” and “Come On, Get In” are the ones that keep getting stuck in my head.  The upbeat songs make me want to dance, while the the slower, heavier songs have me digging into the lyrics booklet for understanding.   Each time I listen I pick up on something I didn’t hear before.

If you haven’t had a chance to hear Tiger Suit yet, you can check out a preview of the album on KT Tunstall’s web site by tweeting or sending a link to facebook.  If you like what you hear, I suggest following KT Tunstall on Twitter or Facebook as well.  She’ll be touring this fall (10/31-12/1) and you don’t want to miss out if she comes near your town!

The not-so-fine print: I received a copy of KT Tunstall’s Tiger Suit in exchange for posting this review and was not compensated in any other way.

Review: Pelican Sorter from Tiny Love

I’m a little behind on posting here due to some recent medical issues and a surgery, but I wanted to tell you about this fun toy I received a while back.  We have no shortage of toys in our house, but the kids are always up for trying something new and I love it when we manage to find something that is fun and educational at the same time!

I was contacted by a company called ebeanstalk, about their toy website dedicated to selecting good, safe baby toys.  They rely on help from moms like me to help pick the toys. The toy they sent is called Sort n’ Learn Pelican from Tiny Love, who makes great developmental toys.  It was a BIG hit at our house!

As soon as I got it out of the package the kids were dying to play with it. I only took pictures of Evie, since she is of the targeted age for the sorter, but her 4-year-old brother couldn’t wait to get his hands on it either!

The Sort n’ Learn Pelican is brightly colored and offers multiple levels of play.  The pelican’s mouth opens up to reveal an electronic shape sorter with sound options and 3 language options.  As the blocks drop through the sorter it tells the shape, color, or plays a fun sound.  The sorter is easily lifted so the child can retrieve the blocks from the pelican’s mouth.  Evie loved just putting the blocks in and taking them out of the mouth without using the sorter as well.  She also quickly figured out that she could wrap her legs around the base to keep it from moving or tipping over while she lifted the top.

Our only problem with this toy is that the top of the pelican’s mouth pops off really easily.  I’m not sure if that was intentional or not, but the kids tend to get very frustrated by it.  It is easy for an adult to pop it back on, but they don’t like having to stop and wait.

Overall I think this was a great toy.  My kids haven’t gotten tired of it yet.  It has become one of their favorites!

Here’s a video of Evie testing it out:

Because I Don't Have Enough to Do

I’m sure it won’t be a big surprise to anyone who knows me, but I have a new blog (Hey, I saw those eyes rolling!). Yes, I know I can barely keep up with the ones I already have. It is a new blog, but really it is just an extension of this one. You see, I’m being a follower and starting up a review blog just like 97% of all the other bloggers out there.

I gave this a lot of thought and have actually had it in the back of my mind for a really long time. Recently I’ve had several opportunities to review and/or give away products that I’ve had to turn down because I didn’t have a place I felt comfortable posting it. I really didn’t want it to be a part of my main blog because I’m not really sure how long I’ll keep up with it plus there are some restrictions with the BlogHer ads that I have here.

The solution to that was to set up an entirely separate page to post reviews and giveaways. I hope to do reviews of things I’ve purchased myself and if I’m lucky I’ll get a few things to review for free. I also hope to be able to give away some fun stuff to my readers.

So, please go check out my first post and if you feel so inclined, enter the contest to win a Wonder Wash and Mini Spin Dryer.  Don’t forget to subscribe by RSS or E-mail while you’re there so you don’t miss out on any future contests!

And now, since you’ve read all the way to then end (or at least skimmed this far) you get rewarded with cute kid pictures!
