Poken This, Poken That

This contest has ended.

I’ve been hearing the word “Poken” thrown around quite a bit lately on Twitter and like any good gadget geek does, I immediately had to look it up and see what all the fuss was about.  So what is a Poken?  Possibly the best way to connect with people across multiple social networks!

A Poken is like a tiny digital business card that instantly transfers all of your social network information to people you meet in the real world.  All you have to do is allow your two Pokens to shake hands and transfer info.  When you activate your Poken, you can choose which of your social networking information you want to share.  Your friends can then view your Poken card when they plug their Poken into the USB port on their computer.

The geek in me is dying to get my hands on one of these!  I can’t even imagine how valuable these would be at a big blogging conference (BlogHer anyone?) or even at a local Tweetup.  Much easier than passing around business cards, not to mention the fact that it would save on the time, effort, and money of having cards printed.

Thanks to Jessica Smith of Jessica Knows and Got Poken and the Momfluence Network, you have a chance to win a Poken of your very own!  It is very easy to enter.  All you have to do is follow the two steps below:

  1. Leave a comment telling me why you want a Poken and/or where you would use it.
  2. Fill out the contest form with your info.

That’s it!  Easy, right?  If by some chance you don’t win and still want to get Poken, you can always head over to Got Poken and pick one up for $20.  You just know all the cool kids will have them.

This contest is open to all U.S. residents. The contest runs from midnight March 22, 2009 to midnight March 29th, 2009.

CD Review: Ballas Hough Band

Ballas Hough BandIf you’re a fan of Dancing With the Stars then you have no doubt heard of Mark Ballas and Derek Hough.  What you may not know about these two professional ballroom dancers is that they have been playing and making music together for more than a decade.  While dancing their way to stardom, they both dreamed of a career in music and worked tirelessly toward that goal.  Along with drummer Harry Sullivan, pianist Emily Grace, and bassist Sam Marder, they formed the Ballas Hough Band.

On March 10th the Ballas Hough Band released their debut CD, BHB.  The majority of songs on BHB are originals, based on personal life experiences.  The first single, “Do It For You,” was co-written by new American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi.  The album also features collaborations with songwriters Dan Wilson, Kevin Kadish and Marty James.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I popped the CD into my player.  While I’m not generally a fan of pop music, I was impressed with the Ballas Hough Band right away.  The first few seconds of  “Do You Love Me” had me ready to dance in my seat.  As the CD progressed, I found myself bopping along to the catchy hooks and rhythms.  However, for me the real gems are the slower songs such as “Longing For” and “Underwater.”

After listening to BHB, it is obvious that Ballas and Hough are much more than skilled dancers.  They are musicians at heart and I have a feeling they will be around for years to come.

Once the Spring season of Dancing With The Stars wraps up, Ballas Hough Band will be heading out on a summer tour across the U.S.  You can find more information about the tour on their MySpace page.

Win a Wonder Wash and Mini Spin Dryer!

This contest has ended.

Do you like to camp?  Do you live in a small apartment with no washer/dryer?  Do you wash a lot of small loads of laundry?  Are you trying to find ways to save money or become a little more environmentally friendly?  If so, then this product if for you!

Wonder Wash

Introducing the Wonderwash from Laundry Alternatives – the space saving, time saving, energy saving Green Clean solution for your laundry needs! As seen on The Rachael Ray Show, through a patented pressure system, the Wonderwash thoroughly cleans a five pound load in just minutes using less water and detergent than even hand washing!

What can you wash with the Wonderwash? How about a week’s worth of dress shirts, 10 t-shirts, 30 pairs of socks, bibs, cloth diapers, burp clothes….the list goes on and on.

How does the Wonderwash work? When you put warm or hot water into the drum, fit the lid in place and seal the machine, the air inside the drum will absorb the heat of the water and expand (i.e., just like a hot air balloon). When the air expands it creates pressure inside the drum. The pressure forces the detergent (which is diluted into the water) into & through the fabric (which is porous) about 100 times faster than you could by hand or machine.

Tell Us How It Could Work for You – And Win a Wonderwash PLUS a Mini Countertop Spin Dryer, which quietly spins the water out of your clothes in just minutes.

To participate follow these easy steps!

1. Blog on your site about what YOU would use the Wonderwash and Mini Countertop Spin Dryer to clean.
2. Post a photo or a video of your mess and be sure to link back to Laundry Alternatives at www.laundry-alternative.com.

Good Things In The Works

Welcome to the Voices In My Mind review site.  I’ve been thinking of setting this up for a while, but couldn’t decide if I really wanted to head down that road.  Review sites are all the rage in the blogging world right now and I just wasn’t sure if I wanted to be a joiner or if I wanted to let it all pass me by.  As you can see, I decided to join in.

What really pushed me to set up a review site is that I’ve has several great offers pass my by recently and I really hated not being able to write about them.  Since I run BlogHer ads on my main site, I’m limited on the type of reviews I can do there.  Plus, whether they are great products or not, I know not everyone is interested in reading about them.  And since this is totally separate from my main site, if I decide I don’t like it I can just say good-bye and close up shop.

That said, I’m really excited to have a place to review things I have purchased myself and/or been offered online.  What can I say?  Shopping is one of my favorite hobbies and I simply love trying out new things!  If you have a product or service you would like to have reviewed here, please email me at voicesinmymind [AT] gmail [DOT] com.

p.s. There will be some shuffling around of the design and/or page elements until I get everything just right so you may notice changes for a while.
