Fresh is Good

I’ve been getting very tired lately of listening to the same old music over and over again. I’m so tired of in in fact, that I haven’t even been listening to music at work lately because there just isn’t anything that I really want to listen to. This is very strange for me. I’m usually the one in the office that has music going all day long. I’m not really sure what the problem is. I think I’m just bored with what I have been listening to. Two of my favorite bands have put out new albums recently, but even those aren’t entertaining me.

I think part of the problem is that I just haven’t had time to really listen to music. I turn it on in the car or at work but it is more background music than something that I am actively listening to. In my previous life (before baby) listening to music was one of my favorite things to do. Now I just don’t have time to do that.

Friday night hubby and I are going to see Shinedown play at the new Voodoo lounge here in KC. We’ve seen them I think 3 times already and they always put on a great show. I’m hoping that it will spark my interest in music a bit. I haven’t been to a rock concert (other than Sarah Mclachlan if you count her as rock) since almost a year ago and guess who that was? Shinedown! I am really looking forward to it. (It will also be only the 3rd time that hubby and I have been out without the baby since he was born.) I really miss my concert-going days. Music used to be such a big part of my life and now I’m just all baby, all the time.

Hmmm, I managed to get off track a bit. The whole point of this post was supposed to be that I’m really wanting some new music to listen to. I want some good rock music that will get me going and just make me want to jam out for a bit. I don’t have time to search, so I’m looking for suggestions. Tell me what you are listening to right now and if you’ve got something that you think will float my boat let me know.

I Got Another Confession to Make

I love to crochet. There it is. I said it. Several years ago, I suddenly got the urge to teach myself to crochet. It was one of many self-teaching projects that I have started. For some reason I just love to pick something out of the blue, learn about it, and teach myself how to do it. Usually, somewhere in the middle of the project I either get bored with it or get frustrated because I really don’t know what I’m doing and give it up. Sometimes I’ll go back to it and other times they just get lost in the big closet that is stuffed full of my unfinished projects.

The teach myself to crochet project started out really well. I was so anxious I went out and bought a ton of yarn, a book of patterns, and some hooks and jumped right in. I couldn’t start out small. I decided that my first project would be an afghan. I don’t know what in the hell I was thinking at the time. I got about a third of the way done with it and it somehow managed to become hidden in the closet. One day, when I was rummaging through some stuff I ran across it and pulled it out. I had some time on my hands so I started working on it again. It took me a while but I finally finished it. It felt so good to finally finish something!

I really enjoyed the fact that I had completed a project. Plus, I really enjoyed doing it. I found crocheting to be fun and a nice way to relax after work. So, I started looking for other things to crochet. Last winter, while I was pregnant, I made a blanket for Zach, lots of hats for myself, friends, and family, and started a purse that got tossed aside because I didn’t like it so well. I found that I really liked making the hats because they are a quick project that I can finish in only a couple of hours and I love the gratification of actually finishing something.

One thing accomplishedA couple of weeks ago, I started getting the bug again so I went out and bought some yarn to make Zach a hat for the winter. His day care provider (she detests being called a baby-sitter) has commented several times now that “This boy needs a hat!” so I figured I better get on it. Sunday, I finally started working on the hat. It started out great. I thought it was looking really good and then I realized that it was going to be way too big for his head. I was already over halfway done with it so I figured I might as well finish it. I decided maybe I could give it to his cousin instead. So, I finished the hat lastnight and I’m pretty sure it is too big for the cousin to wear too. So, now I’m trying to think of who in the heck I know that could wear this cute little hat. I thought about trying to sell it, but I’m not sure if anyone would buy it. So, now I just have this hat sitting here and I’m not sure what to do with it.
